The God Who Sees Me - Genesis 16:13

"So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, 'You are a God of seeing,' for she said, 'Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.'"

- Genesis 16:13

Hagar’s story in Genesis 16 is raw. She wasn’t a leader or someone of status. She was a servant, caught in a messy, unjust situation, and ended up fleeing into the wilderness. Alone and pregnant, she wasn’t looking for God — but He found her.

What’s powerful is not just that God knew where she was — it’s that He cared enough to speak to her personally. He called her by name. He gave her direction. And Hagar, overwhelmed, responded with a name for God that still echoes through time:
“You are the God who sees me.”

Not “the God who sees the important people,” or “the God who sees when I get it right” — but me, in my pain, in my mess, in the wilderness. That moment changed her.

This verse reminds us that God doesn't just see from a distance — He sees intimately. He sees the long nights. The unnoticed effort. The anxious thoughts. The quiet battles. And He doesn’t just observe; He cares. He “looks after” you. He moves toward you.

This week, if you feel small, unseen, or unimportant — remember this: God sees you. And not just the version of you that’s curated or cleaned up — He sees the whole story and still comes close.

Prayer: Lord, when I feel invisible, remind me that You are the God who sees.
When others overlook me or dismiss me, help me rest in the truth that I matter to You.
Let me walk through this week with quiet confidence — not because the world sees me, but because You do. Amen.

We have been working our way through Genesis the last several months and Hagar indeed got a raw deal. God is so so good. So grateful He is in my life no matter what and that he SEES me. ❤️🙌🏻

This could not have been more fitting for me yesterday, well really, any day. But especially yesterday. It was a rough one.

Yes, my daughter A.R. is in a mess, in the wilderness and needs God’s guidance. Please pray for her protection and for God to please put a good Christian man in her life today. Thank you all who pray for her.

I loved this reflection today- Hagars story resonates with me because of my passion for fighting for the dignity of every human person. Hagar chose to trust God even in the midst of great judgement and condemnation, she chose to follow God and listen to his words. She is an amazing example of beauty and love because she listened to Gods truth and knew he was her provider.
