Who Are You Living For? Galatians 1:10

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Most people would never openly say they live for the approval of others, but if you look closely, it quietly influences far more than they realize. It shows up in the hesitation before posting something, in the second guessing of decisions, in the pressure to present a certain image or live up to expectations that were never truly theirs to begin with. It becomes easy to shape your life around how you are perceived instead of what is actually right.

Paul confronts that directly in this verse, and he does not soften it. He makes it clear that there is a line that cannot be blurred. You cannot build your life on pleasing people and still fully serve God. At some point those two paths will collide, and when they do, the choice you make reveals what has really been guiding you all along.

The difficult part is that seeking approval rarely feels like a problem. It feels normal because it is so ingrained in everyday life. You want to be respected, understood, and accepted. But the moment that desire starts shaping your identity or controlling your obedience, it becomes something heavier. It turns into a weight that keeps you from living with clarity, because you are constantly adjusting yourself to match shifting opinions.

The truth is that approval is never stable. What people praise today they may question tomorrow, and if your identity is built on that, you will always feel like you are chasing something just out of reach. But when your focus shifts to God, everything steadies. You are no longer reacting to every opinion or measuring yourself against every expectation. You begin to live with a sense of direction that is not easily shaken.

This does not mean you stop caring about people, but it does mean their approval no longer defines you. It means you are willing to stand firm even when it is uncomfortable, to make decisions that may not make sense to everyone, and to move forward without needing constant validation. That kind of life is not driven by pressure, but by purpose.

And that is where real freedom starts, not when everyone agrees with you, but when you know who you are living for.

Prayer: Lord, help me to stop seeking approval from people and to live fully for You. Give me the courage to stand firm when it is uncomfortable and the clarity to follow what is right, even when it is not understood. Remind me that my identity is found in You alone. Amen.
