Good Friday Devotional

Good Friday marks the moment when Jesus, fully God and fully man, was handed over, mocked, beaten, nailed to a wooden cross, and left to die a criminal’s death.

What’s striking is that Jesus didn’t resist. He didn’t call down angels. He didn’t run. Instead, He chose the suffering. He willingly stepped into the pain, the injustice, the humiliation—for us.

At the center of this day is the paradox of the gospel: that something so horrific could be called “good.” But the goodness isn't in what was done to Jesus—it's in what He accomplished through it.
On that cross:

  • Sin was defeated

  • Shame was covered

  • Death was disarmed

  • Love was revealed in its rawest, most powerful form

The cross wasn’t just Jesus’ punishment—it was our substitute. The wrath we deserved was poured out on Him. The separation we caused was bridged by His sacrifice. He was crushed, so we could be made whole.

And He spoke these final words:

“It is finished.” (John 19:30)
Not, “I am finished,” but “It”—the debt, the distance, the darkness—is finished.

If you feel unworthy—remember the price He paid for you.

If you’re carrying guilt—know that His wounds were for your healing.

If you doubt God’s love—look no further than the cross.

Prayer:

Jesus, today I remember Your cross. I remember the agony You endured, the rejection You felt, the weight You carried. And I am in awe. You were pierced for my sin, crushed for my failures. You took the punishment that should’ve been mine—and You did it willingly.
Let this never become normal to me. Let it shake me, change me, soften me.
Thank You for enduring the darkness so I could walk in the light. May I live every day in the shadow of the cross and in the freedom of Your finished work.
Amen.

Whenever we see a picture of Christ hanging on the cross I pray we will all remember He is no longer on the cross. He rose after 3 days in a borrowed tomb. Jesus is fine now. I keep reminding myself that Jesus is happy and will never have to repeat the terrible events He had to go through to save US from our sins. Whoever reads this comment please pray for God to put the man He created for my daughter A.R. in her life so she may have peace so I may have peace. Thank you and Happy Easter.

So much guilt, heaviness, sinfulness. I know of God’s love, have felt it. I can only hope that one day some of this will be removed or healed.
