Greater Glory Ahead - Romans 8:18

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

- Romans 8:18

The Apostle Paul writes this to the Roman believers during a time when following Christ could cost everything—freedom, family, even life. Paul himself had endured beatings, shipwrecks, rejection, and prison. Yet here, he lifts their eyes beyond the pain of the present and points to a future that makes it all worth it.

The “sufferings of this present time” aren’t minimized—they’re real. But Paul says they pale in comparison to the glory coming. That glory is more than heaven—it’s the full restoration of everything broken, the unveiling of God’s complete plan for His children. It’s eternal hope that outlasts temporary pain.

Everyone suffers—physically, emotionally, spiritually. Sometimes silently. Sometimes publicly. But suffering is not the end of the story. Paul reminds us: what feels overwhelming now won’t even be worth comparing to what God has in store.

This verse isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about holding on. It’s about knowing there’s meaning in the middle of the mess, and that God’s promise outweighs our present pressure.

Prayer

Father, when life feels heavy, remind me that this is not the whole story. Help me trust that what You’ve promised outweighs what I’m going through. Give me hope beyond what I can see, and strength to keep going with eternity in mind. Amen.

This is a message that i read and say a lot. Especially with all that is going on in my life and our world as well. Thank you for these devotionals. For the past several weeks they have really aligned with things going on in my life with family, financial struggles, and big changes coming at my work. Trust in God’s plan and his love. For all will be revealed to us soon. Glory be to our father!

This is timely now since I am going through a lot of trials due to my own mistakes that by God’s grace and mercy I am overcoming one step at a time. I know it is impossible to succeed here in this world and become perfect. There will be falls and shortcomings, but with the promise of God to be with us always and giving us the best life eternally. All is worth the ups and downs… The learning and unlearning. Please help us do Your will will for us, Lord God the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen and amen.

I believe the verses are real. I’m sure amazing things await all believers in Jesus in heaven. But it is hard on this earth. It’s hard when your daughter is in her 20th year of rebellion. (37 years old going on 14) It’s hard when you are all alone. It’s hard taking life one day at a time. Yes, I believe in the verses but sometimes life is overwhelming.

We all face trials and obstacles every day but the pain and trials will never compare to the eternal glory and light that we will be given in Heaven one day. Eternal life will be greater than the obstacles, pain, and worry. The light will be greater than the darkness and one day we will see it and be with God in Heaven.

Paul’s list of sufferings for the flock of Christ, lo, His chosen saints; in 2Co11 is quite the description of something we all could never truly comprehend. Therefore, let us honor, praise, and thank YHWH through Christ Jesus the Almighty—daily—for His Providence and Help for our weakness and failures in the flesh. Philippians 1:6 isn’t just an example, it’s a promise!

I help lead a local young adults group. We are planning a camping trip and I am requesting prayer for God to work through us in the planning and execution of it. I’ve been praying for Him to speak through me as I hope to involve non-believers as well. I need prayer for guidance and courage.
