Not Every Offense Needs an Answer - Proverbs 19:11
“Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.”
- Proverbs 19:11
Many conflicts do not begin with a major betrayal. They begin with an impatient tone, a careless comment, an interruption, or the feeling that our effort went unnoticed. The moment passes, but we keep returning to it. We replay what was said, strengthen our case, and prepare the response we wish we had given.
Proverbs says that good sense makes a person “slow to anger.” It does not say that wise people never become angry or that every wrong should be ignored. It means wisdom creates space between the offense and our response. Instead of allowing the first rush of emotion to decide what happens next, we pause long enough to consider whether our anger is pointing to something important or simply defending our pride.
The second half of the verse is surprising: “it is his glory to overlook an offense.” We often think strength means making sure nobody gets away with disrespecting us. Scripture describes another kind of strength. A secure person does not need to collect payment for every careless word or minor irritation. Some offenses can be released without a confrontation, a cold shoulder, or a quiet attempt to make the other person feel guilty.
Overlooking an offense does not mean excusing abuse, remaining silent about serious harm, or avoiding a conversation that could bring clarity and reconciliation. It means refusing to make every disappointment into a debt someone must repay. Before responding this week, ask what you are hoping your response will accomplish. If it will protect someone, correct a harmful pattern, or restore a relationship, speak with patience. If it will only prove that you were right, there may be greater strength in letting it go.
Prayer: God, slow me down when anger wants to choose my response. Give me wisdom to recognize what needs an honest conversation and what I can release without resentment. Help me care more about peace and restoration than proving my point. Amen.

JC dump whoever is cheating on you. Life is much too short to spend with someone you can’t trust. I’ve been there.
