Steady in the Ordinary - 1 Corinthians 15:58

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

-1 Corinthians 15:58

Some weeks don’t have a climax. No big crisis, no major breakthrough, just the slow, heavy feeling of being stretched thin. You aren’t "inspired." You’re just showing up because you have to. We often feel guilty about that lack of fire, but that’s exactly where Paul’s words are meant to land.

When he tells us to be steadfast and immovable, he isn't describing a spiritual superhero or a machine. He’s talking about the grit it takes to stay grounded when your feelings are telling you to drift. It’s the quiet decision to trust what you know to be true, even when your energy levels say otherwise.

We tend to overcomplicate "abounding in the work of the Lord." We think it requires a stage or a massive sacrifice. In reality, that work is usually found in the mundane: the patience you show a difficult person, the integrity of your work when no one is looking, or the prayer you whisper when the room feels silent. These aren't "extra" tasks; they are the substance of a faithful life.

The promise that your labor is not in vain answers our fear that our small efforts are disappearing into a vacuum. God isn't looking for a highlight reel or a polished performance. He is present in the "repeat" days. The ones that feel plain and imperfect.

If today feels heavy or unremarkable, take heart. Your steady persistence, as fragile as it might feel right now, is seen. It matters. It is never wasted.

Prayer: Lord, help me stay steady this week. Even when things feel ordinary, keep my heart anchored in You. Remind me that the small things matter, and that You’re with me in all of it. Amen.

I like to ask God /Jesus/ Holy Spirit for a bonus in answering my prayers. Some , probably most, people put God in a box and ask for answers to their prayers and that is it. I’ve heard some people pray in what I call King James Version. Thinking God can only understand that type of language. Nothing wrong with any of those things but God is very good at not only answering my prayers but in also giving me a bonus I never even thought of. Don’t restrict God to your way of thinking.
