The Life That Refreshes Others - Proverbs 11:25

“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

Scarcity is not only about money. We can become protective of our time, attention, encouragement, and energy because we are afraid there will not be enough left for us. We wait until we feel less tired before helping, more appreciated before encouraging, or more secure before giving.

Proverbs describes a different way to live. The person who brings blessing to others is enriched, and the one who refreshes someone else is also refreshed. This is not a formula promising that every generous act will produce financial gain or an immediate reward. It describes how God often works through an open-handed life.

Generosity changes the person who practices it. Encouraging someone else can interrupt our own self-criticism. Serving can reconnect us with purpose when we feel detached. Giving loosens the grip that fear has on what we possess. We may begin by trying to meet another person’s need and discover that God is also working on our hearts in the process.

This does not mean ignoring healthy limits or saying yes to every request. It means refusing to let fear turn us inward. Consider what you have been guarding most closely lately. It may be your money, time, attention, knowledge, or encouragement. Find one intentional way to use it for someone else without expecting repayment, and trust God with what remains.

Prayer: God, show me where fear has made me closed-handed toward others. Help me give freely, serve wisely, and trust You with what I have instead of living as though there will never be enough. Amen.
