What You Practice Multiplies - Luke 16:10

"One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much."

- Luke 16:10

Most people think the small things don’t matter. A quick lie to avoid consequences. A moment of impatience. Choosing not to help when it would be inconvenient. These feel insignificant, almost forgettable, like they disappear as quickly as they happen. But this verse challenges that thinking completely. It shows that nothing is actually neutral. Every small action is forming something beneath the surface.

Jesus is pointing to a deeper truth about human nature. What you repeatedly do in small moments doesn’t stay small, it grows. Integrity is not something you suddenly rise to when it matters most. It is something you’ve been building all along. In the same way, dishonesty and compromise don’t suddenly appear in big situations, they are the result of patterns that started quietly.

This works both ways, which is what makes this verse so powerful. Small acts of faithfulness, choosing honesty when it would be easier to bend the truth, showing kindness when no one expects it, serving others without recognition, these begin to shape a life marked by trust, strength, and consistency. Over time, those quiet decisions compound into something unshakable.

But the reverse is just as real. Small compromises don’t stay contained. They build momentum. A pattern of cutting corners, manipulating situations, or ignoring what’s right slowly reshapes your character in ways that are hard to see until the consequences are larger and harder to reverse.

God is not just concerned with the big, visible moments of your life. He is concerned with what you are practicing daily. Because what you practice, you become. And what you become will eventually show itself when it matters most.

So the question is not what you will do when everything is on the line. The real question is what you are doing right now, in the small moments no one else sees.

Prayer

Lord, help me to be faithful in the small things. Give me the strength to choose what is right, even when it feels insignificant or unseen. Shape my character through daily obedience, and guard my heart from small compromises that lead me away from You. In everything I do, make me consistent, honest, and aligned with Your truth. Amen.

This describes my daughters, A.R., slide from a great Christian foundation to a sandy shaky foundation. She has been running from God and from me, her Dad, for over 20 years. Please pray for her to return back home. Thank you.
