4th Sunday of Lent - John 1:5
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
- John 1:5
By the fourth Sunday of Lent, we have already been asked to slow down, examine our hearts, and confront the places where we fall short. Lent is not meant to leave us in that weight. It is meant to lead us toward light.
Scripture reminds us that darkness never has the final word. Sin, doubt, failure, exhaustion, fear. None of these are strong enough to overcome the light of Christ.
John says the light shines in the darkness. Notice the tense. It does not say the light shined once or will shine someday. It is shining right now.
That is the hope of the gospel. Even in the middle of struggle, God is already at work. Even when discipline feels hard or growth feels slow, the light of Christ is still pushing back the darkness.
In our faith, our work, and even our physical training, progress rarely happens all at once. It comes through steady obedience. Small steps taken daily in the direction of the light.
Lent reminds us that transformation often begins quietly. But when we keep walking toward Christ, the light always wins.
Prayer: Lord, Thank You that Your light cannot be overcome.
When life feels heavy or uncertain, remind me that You are already working. Help me walk faithfully each day, choosing truth, discipline, and obedience. Shape my heart during this season of Lent so that my life reflects Your light to the world. Amen.

Good message. My daughter A.R. has been in rebellion over 20 years now. I talked to a Christian counselor and told her I have thought about giving up she said NO let my light shine for my daughter. Maybe I am the only light (good influence) that shines on her. She has met a new boyfriend who has a 10 year old daughter. I told A.R. to be a Christian influence on the boyfriend and his daughter. Please pray for Jesus to help A.R. break away from her old habits and follow the light back to Christ. Thank ya’ll.
