Sharpened Together - Proverbs 27:17

“Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Proverbs 27:17

We live in a culture that celebrates independence — build your own brand, do your own thing, stay in your lane. But the Kingdom of God was never designed to be lived in isolation. It’s not just me and Jesus — it’s we and Jesus.

Proverbs 27:17 reminds us that real growth doesn’t happen alone. Just like iron blades become sharper through contact, your faith becomes stronger through Christ-centered relationships — the ones that challenge you, call you higher, and refuse to let you settle for surface-level spirituality.

We all need people in our lives who don’t just tell us what we want to hear, but who remind us of what’s true. People who ask hard questions, who pray when we can’t find the words, who call us out and call us up. People who carry our burdens — and also hold us accountable.

God often speaks, corrects, encourages, and equips us through other people. That’s why Christian community matters — not just for friendship, but for formation.

So ask yourself:

  • Who sharpens me?

  • Who helps me see Christ more clearly?

  • And who am I sharpening in return?

Because spiritual maturity doesn’t grow in silence or isolation. It grows in the daily, honest, messy work of life together.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the people who speak truth into my life — even when it’s hard to hear. Help me build friendships that are rooted in You, not just convenience or comfort. Teach me to be the kind of friend who sharpens others toward love, grace, and truth.

I’m struggling with racing thought sometimes I feel Gods ashamed of my like my mother and father. I’ve never had a friend it was always people around cause the drugs I could get and the money. I was always used to benefit others desires . Nobody ever cared for my soul. I was a perk head due to a dentist that hacked my mouth up at 22 yrs old. . Mass health just approved, dentures and nails who destroyed people’s no money and then hurt himself when it came time to take the accountability.. god forgive him. But he’s done so much damage on my bond. I’ve never been able to get bottom teeth. I look like a crackhead.. everyone always calls me a crackhead when I walk by people I always hear them talking bad about me and they in front of my body and how skinny I am. I don’t have food. I have a big nose and I like a boy and my mouth is weird.. Kids will tell My Son that he has a crackhead mother. I’ve been sober for 5 yrs. I wish I could get bottom snap in teeth so I can smile for the first time in like 20 something years with out being self conscious of how my mouth looks. I wish I could get the snap in dentures cause there’s no bone there he hacked me up bad too. I would love to be able to eat healthy food. I would love to be able to eat and not have pain excruciating pain to the point I don’t like to eat.. i wait cause I know God will provide. When time is right.

I just can’t stand the little kids bullying My Son calling him. He was a crackhead mom and then he’s trying to defend me and I’ll beat him up. He was really sad. I never even really smoked crack. Tried it once. Never gonna enjoy it.. people don’t even have a problem with me. In fact I have no reason and I’ve done nothing wrong with some of these people. I don’t get it. All I want is a friend.

So true amen! I love this 🩷 The Christian life was not meant to be lived alone and apart from community. In community we find: hope, love, and encouragement for every season that we walk through. I am so blessed by the community of believers God has placed in my life. Thank you for this! God bless you! 😊

Iron sharpens iron….so true. We must hold each other accountable. So much hurt in the world. Be kind and don’t be afraid to smile at strangers. Everyone is carrying their own cross. Please pray for God to send a Christian man to my wayward daughter A.R. Thank ya’ll and God bless you all.

Awesome devotional, thank you for your steadfastness and your strength! And your great products as well. We will never escape the fact that we are in a battle, and we need each other so much, so thank you Lord, for giving us each other!!
I want to share something that I heard one time and I never forgot.
When things get difficult, we must hold on to our most holy faith like a bulldog holds onto his bone, and he won’t let go even though you lift him right off the ground into the air. He will not let go!!
So it must be with us, and our most Holy Faith. Blessings to you guys,
John.
